2009 Upper Deck Baseball Series 2

Another great gift from a parent at school. A 2009 Upper Deck Fat Pack. I have been very lucky and received about 4 of these fat packs from various people. As I have mentioned before UD must have the best marketing ploy in the entire country. These particular packs somehow encourage people, who know nothing about cards, to buy them.
So as the title suggests, we are looking for Red Sox in these packs. At present my Dodgers magnet is a little off and the Mets are appearing more often. Lets see what's inside.
#517 Josh Anderson Braves
#536 Jeremy Guthrie Orioles
#539 Aubrey Huff Orioles
#544 John Smoltz Red Sox
#557 Jonathan Papelbon Red Sox
#559 Hideki Okajima Red Sox
#594 Jay Bruce Reds
#597 Mike Lincoln Reds
#611 Mark DeRosa Indians
#640 Gary Sheffield Tigers
#650 Wes Helms Marlins
#658 Logan Kensing Marlins
#680 Alex Gordon Royals
#706 Casey Blake Dodgers
#718 Corey Hart Brewers
#725 Seth McClung Brewers
#750 Ryan Church Mets
#776 Mark Teixeira Yankees
#780 Jose Molina Yankees
#781 Alex Rodriguez Yankees
#789 Matt Holliday Athletics
#792 Jason Giambi Athletics
#816 Andy LaRoche Pirates
#834 Cla Meredith Padres
#844 Pablo Sandoval Giants
#845 Emmanuel Burriss Giants
#882 Yadier Molina Cardinals
#894 Dioner Navarro Bay Rays
#916 Marco Scutaro Blue Jays
#932 Josh Willingham Nationals
#957 Grady Sizemore Indians
#962 David Wright Mets
#987 Rocco Baldelli Red Sox
#997 Brian Fuentes Angels
#SQ-29 Brian McCann Braves turquoise common
#SQ-47 Justin Morneau Twins turquoise uncommon
So there you have it... 4 Red Sox from a 36 card pack. I think I have all the Red Sox from this particular set now as well.

2009 Upper Deck Baseball Series 1 Fat Pack

I feel as if Upper Deck has done a fantastic marketing job for passing trade. This is the third time that someone visiting the US has 'just happened' to see baseball cards and picked me a few packs. I'm not complaining, although I have to wonder out of all the cards available in the US, that Upper Deck is the one chosen to buy. Is it the colourful front and large image that draws non-collectors towards them. These look pretty, I'll have those.

These came from a parent at school, whose holiday took them to Florida and I am grateful that they thought of me whilst visiting Disneyland, Busch Gardens and the Kennedy Space Centre. 'There was so many to choose from,' the parent added! Oh, to have that dilemma.
For details of the set look here, when I opened the same fat pack back in July. My hunt for Sox continues.

The pack:
#2 Conor Jackson D-backs
#23 Yunel Escobar Braves
#30 Brain Roberts Orioles
#37 George Sherrill Orioles
#65 Jim Edwards Cubs
#79 Carlos Quentin White Sox
#93 Ken Griffey Jr. White Sox
#100 Edwin Encarnacion Reds
#103 Jay Bruce Reds
#117 Ubaldo Jimenez Rockies
#133 Magglio Ordonez Tigers
#159 Jose Valverde Astros
#166 Gil Meche Royals
#180 Jered Weaver Angels
#210 Clayton Kershaw Dodgers
#234 Craig Monroe Twins
#249 Pedro Martinez Mets
#266 Melkey Cabrera Yankees
#283 Daric Barton Athletics
#300 Jamie Moyer Phillies
#337 Jose Vidro Mariners
#307 Ryan Doumit Pirates
#320 Josh Bard Padres
#360 Evan Longoria Bay Rays
#371 Rocco Baldelli Bay Rays
#375 Ian Kinsler Rangers
#392 Elihah Dukes Nationals
#403 Jonathan Niese Mets

#457 Dodgers Team leaders
#473 Chipper Jones Braves
#487 Dustin Pedroia Red Sox
#492 Grady Sizemore Indians
#RD-MG Mat Gamel Brewers
#RD-MB Michael Bowden Red Sox

Two Sox and one of the then a rookie debut. No bad at all.

2006 Fleer Baseball Fat pack

I bought this fat pack of 2006 Fleer recently off e-bay. Why? Well it was very cheap, the 2006 Fleer Tradition is one of my favourite recent designs and I hadn't opened any Fleer, other than Tradition, and thought to myself-Why not?.
The Fat Pack:
#8 Garret Anderson Angels
#9 Jarrod Washburn Mariners
#14 Vladimir Guerrero Angels
#39 Nick Swisher Athletics
#40 Rich Harden Athetics
#43 John-Ford Griffin Blue Jays
#58 Anthony Lerew Braves
#65 Mike Hampton Braves
#67 Chuck James Braves
#68 Tim Hudson Braves
#74 Nelson Cruz Brewers
#83 Chris Carpenter Cardinals
#99 Derrek Lee Cubs
#106 Geovany Soto Cubs
#111 Aubrey Huff Bay Rays
#117 Jorge Cantu Bay Rays
#138 Cesar Izturis Dodgers
#142 J.D.Drew Dodgers
#144 Jayson Werth Dodgers
#151 Armando Benitez Giants
#152 Edgardo Alfonzo Angels
#171 Jake Westbrook Indians
#192 Carlos Delgado Mets
#196 Juan Encarnacion Cardinals
#202 Todd Jones Tigers
#206 David Wright Mets
#217 Brad Wilkerson Rangers
#219 Chad Cordero Nationals
#229 Vinny Castilla Padres
#230 B.J.Ryan Blue Jays
#235 Erik Bedard Orioles
#259 Chase Utley Phillies
#260 David Bell Phillies
#264 Danny Sandoval Phillies
#279 Zach Duke Pirates
#288 Laynce Nix Rangers
#289 Mark Teixeria Rangers
#295 Curt Schilling Red Sox
#304 Craig Hansen Red Sox
#312 Edwin Encarncion Reds
#320 MikeEsposito Rockies
#327 J.D Closser Rockies
#332 Angel Berroa Royals
#338 Matt Stairs Royals
#354 Omar Infante Tigers
#363 Johan Santana Twins
#365 Francisco Liriano Twins
#370 Torii Hunter Twins
#372 Aaron Rowand Phillies
#373 Carl Everett Mariners
#T40-3 Albert Pujols Cardinals
#T40-5 Vladimir Guerrero Angels

Well 2 Red Sox from a fat pack of 50 cards is not a great ratio. But I can see the benefits of these packs for the set collectors, however many serious collectors are looking for the hits per square yard. No hits in the Fat packs.
