2015 Donruss Baseball Jumbo Pack

I purchased this 'Value pack' from a fellow collector in the UK, mainly out of curiosity. I think we should support Panini in their attempt to give collectors a choice over Topps. The baseball monopoly has allowed Topps to produce some half-hearted products in the past.
Panini has tried extremely hard with sets like Americas Pastime, Cooperstown, Golden Age, Prizm and even ultra expensive National Treasures. They appear to be thinking carefully about the collector.
I even liked the short lived Triple Play, although aimed at children, it was a refreshing take on card design.
That being said, Donruss cards from the 1980’s are not of the greatest design. The inserts; Studio, The Rookies and Donruss Preferred are by far the best in this set. I suppose we should be thankful they didn’t rehash '88 or '89 Donruss.
There are a number of Red Sox base cards and inserts available:
Base
#59 David Ortiz
#60 Dustin Pedroia
#62 Xander Bogaerts
#151 Pablo Sandoval
#190 Wade Boggs
Inaugural 1981 Edition
#213 Dustin Pedroia
#220 David Ortiz
Rated Rookies
#31 Rusney Castillo
All-Time Diamond Kings
#18 Wade Boggs
#20 Carl Yastrzemski
The Rookies
#1 Rusney Castillo
#6 Anthony Ranaudo

There are 30 Pro baseball Trading cards in the Value Pack.
The pack:
#40 Brandon Finnegan Kansas City RR
#60 Dustin Pedroia Boston

#65 Starlin Castro Chicago
#71 Joey Votto Cincinnati
#78 Corey Kluber Cleveland
#86 Justin Verlander Detroit
#95 Eric Hosmer Kansas City
#104 Clayton Kershaw Los Angeles
#117 Francisco Rodriguez Milwaukee
#127 Matt Harvey New York
#130 David Robertson Chicago
#135 Ryan Howard Philadelphia
#139 Gregory Polanco Pittsburgh
#142 Starling Marte Pittsburgh
#144 Gerrit Cole Pittsburgh
#145 Seth Smith Seattle
#155 Mike Zunino Seattle
#164 Evan Longoria Tampa Bay
#169 Yu Darvish Texas
#174 Melky Cabrera Toronto
#187 Kirby Puckett Minnesota
#190 Wade Boggs Boston
#214 Felix Hernandez Seattle
Inserts
#7 Joe Altuve Houston Studio
#10 Dalton Pompey Toronto The Rookies
#15 Brandon Finnegan  Kansas City Donruss Preferred
#17 Taylor Ward  Collegiate National Team
#29 Mark McGwire St. Louis All-time Diamond King
#33 Yasmany Tomas Cuba Elite

So a couple of Red Sox. I'll take a Wade Boggs card any day.
There is a number of  'hidden' variations in this set, which I didn't mention earlier. But there was none in this value pack.

2013 Panini Cooperstown baseball trading cards

There is only one reason I obtained some of these Cooperstown packs and one reason only- Colgan's Chip disks/disc*!
*"Disk or disc? Disc, being short for discus, refers to anything round. However there is no consensus on the difference between disc and disk and in many contexts the two are used interchangeably. Disk is the standard spelling for computer-related terms such as hard disk and floppy diskDisc is the standard spelling for phonograph records, albums, and components of plows and brake systems. It would appear that disk is more popular in the US and disc the preferred spelling in the UK.
Possibly not as exciting as some of the other inserts such as Lumberjacks, which may slightly change my first sentence to... 'there are only two reasons...' I am not a fan of the base cards, although the subjects are interesting a find the design a little off putting.

The 165 disc (disk) set features players from both the modern and vintage era of baseball and lets face it anything card related that is round is oddball enough for anyone to want to collect a sample. So why not the whole set!
Follow my progress collecting the disc here.

Panini Triple Play 2012 and 2013

I really liked this Panini product, however I think that I might be a part of the minority as after two years they dropped it. Collecting the whole base set was fairly easy if you purchased a box. The inserts, on the other hand, remain tricky to complete, in particular the 9 cards that make a larger picture.  Even COMC  has only a few, perhaps collectors do not consider these 'serious' cards.
The two packs were purchased for 'The Dollar Store' in Londonderry.

2012 pack
7 cards per pack
#23 Carlos Santana Cleveland
#64 Andrew McCutchen Pittsburgh
#81 Evan Longoria Tampa Bay
#96 (6 of 9) Justin Upton Arizona
#138 (3 of 9) A-Rod  New York
sticker #17 Chipper Jones Atlanta
Grand Slam Tattoo #5
My favourite card from the 2012 set
2013 pack
7 cards per pack
#6 Jason Heyward Atlanta
#13 Starlin Castro Chicago
#23 Chris Perez Cleveland
#54 Matt Harvey New York
#68 Chase Headley San Diego
#75 Carlos Beltran St.Louis
#11 sticker Derek Jeter New York

While I loved the images from 2012, I feel that the 2013 selection was not as good.
Not a single Red Sox from either pack.

2013 Panini Cooperstown insert Colgan's Chips

In 1909 the Colgan's Gum Company in Louisville, Kentucky began producing round discs to fit within the Colgan's tins that held ten pieces of gum and "a ball player in every container".

There are three distinct Colgan's Chip sets with an ACC designation of E254 and E270. The first set E254 or ‘Stars of the Diamond’ were produced from 1909 to 1911. The chips were continuously updated during the two year period as at least several print runs were done to correct style and orientation, as well as show team changes.

As a result there are multiple levels of rarity within the set with some discs being very common and others being extremely rare. The E270 or ‘Red Borders’ and ‘Tin Tops’were produced in 1912 and 13.

The original Colgan’ s Chip set contains several hundred subjects including Honus Wagner, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and Ty Cobb.

In 2013 Panini inserted, within the Cooperstown Collection, round discs that replicated the original Colgan’s Chip discs. The 2013 issue has 165 discs featuring players from the nineteenth century, such as Christy Mathewson, Tris Speaker and Nap Lajoie, to the 1990s, with the likes of Dennis Eckersley and Paul Molitor.

To show the difference between the two, Panini's modern edition are 3/4' larger than the 1 1/2 inch 1909 originals. However, both the front and back of Panini’s modern variation is almost exactly similar in design to the original.

With 1 unnumbered Colgan's Chip disc inserted into each pack of the 2013 Cooperstown Collection, to complete the set will be a long but not insurmountable task.

I have 50 and need 115 left to complete the set.

The complete list of the 2013 Colgan’s Chip discs:

2013 Panini Cooperstown Blaster

Not sure why I purchased this blaster of 2013 Cooperstown, just saw it on e-bay and thought 'Why not!' Initially opening the box, I was impressed with the bright red packs, but a little underwhelmed by the actual card design. At first glance the sepia-toned pictures were good but didn't excite. However since putting the packs to one side and then getting them out again to write this post, I am more impressed, not just by the depth of players included and the inserts but also the actual card design.
If you're a enthusiast of the backs of cards, then Cooperstown may interest you. Each back features a box score and a short description of the participation of the player depicted.
The addition of the Colgan's Chips is brilliant. At 1 per pack and a 165 card checklist, it is very tempting to go after the entire set. I love this sort of insert in baseball product.

The base set consists of 100 cards, which come in a number of parallels; Green, Blue, Red, Gold, Black Crystal Shard and Matrix. Plus a further 10 colour short printed base cards.
There are inserts; Colgan's Chips, Lumberjacks, Lumberjacks Die Cut, Historic Tickets, Induction, Museum Pieces, Numbers Game and International Play.
There is an interesting looking box topper insert called Pennants, which comes in blue and red.
I purchased a blaster box, which includes 5 packs each containing 6 cards. As a bonus each blaster has three crystal shard parallels. You may notice the box above is a little beaten and battered, the cards were safe except for one pack, which suffered some corner damage.

Pack 1:
#18 Miller Huggins New York
 #39 Dizzy Dean St.Louis
#75 Al Kaline Detroit
#96 Mike Schmidt Philadelphia
#4 1922 World Series historic ticket insert

Bonus Crystal Shard pack
#41 Carl Hubbell New York green shard
#84 Bob Gibson St.Louis green shard

I nice enough cross section of inserts, the historic ticket in particular was interesting and I am even more tempted to try and collect the set of Colgan's Chip.

Even more 2012 Panini Triple Play

The final 8 packs from this box of 24 packs.
Still more cards needed to complete the whole set. Only 11 cards from the 90 card base set, but I set the goal of all inserts too, which leaves the total at 124 cards- the puzzle cards are proving to be the most difficult. There are 144 cards (9 cards for the 16 players) and I still have 85 to collect.

Pack 17:
#60 Yoenis Cespedes Oakland

Well that is 48 packs and I think I still short a few of the base set of 90 cards, but the puzzle pieces are proving to be very difficult. Only 1 of the 9 pieces of the Roy Halladay set.

2012 Panini Triple Play

With the increase in postage prices from America, and my mishap with a previous purchase from Dave and Allen's Cards, I decided to go down another route altogether to complete this Triple Play set. There was the possibility of purchasing the cards from Germany, but it didn't work out any less expensive than purchasing through the USA, so I purchased a box of the Panini Triple Play from O Canada.
Big B from Waxaholic may be pleased to know that the purchase from a fellow country man went as smooth as silk- no hidden charges and they arrived super quickly.
