2013 Topps Series 2 baseball Jumbo pack

With the imminent arrival of 2014 Topps Series 2, these packs(there are a few) may seem a tad delayed. However I am still after the majority of the Red Sox from the flagship Topps, series1 and update included. The inclusion of 3 blue bordered parallels signify that these jumbo packs, containing 36 cards, were purchased in Wal-Mart. A Walmart somewhere in New York state.
My boss, soon to be ex-boss, was on a break in New York last year and returned with 9 jumbo packs, with an apology saying 'this is all she could find!'
I wasn't disappointed. Her departure from my school may mean these generous gifting are a thing of the past.
Four of the jumbos remain unopened, but not for long. I thought about selling them on eBay but I just enjoy opening packs far too much.

The Topps Series 2 was a 330 card continuation of the series 1 set.
The base cards are available in a number of parallel versions; Emerald Foil, Blue (Wal-Mart), Purple (Toys R' Us), Red (Target), Emerald Blue, Gold, Desert Camo Foil, Black, Pink, Silver Slate, and Platinum.
There are also the short printed base variations.
The inserts include; 1972 minis, Silk collection, Chasing History, Cut to the Chase, Making their Mark, Chase it down, World Baseball Classic stars, the Elite and Elite Gold. Most of the inserts come in an autograph/relic version.

Jumbo pack 1:

#367 Carlos Ruiz Phillies

These jumbo packs must be easily accessible in places like Walmart. This is the third jumbo pack of series 2 that has been bought for me by someone visiting the US for holidays. 2012 Bowman Jumbo Pack

There is always a great expectation around the Bowman set. The self designated 'Home of the Rookie Card' hasn't failed to deliver in the past few years.
The 2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg Superfractors sold for stupid money. In  2011 another National, Bryce Harper,  had Bowman cards selling for, not quite the heady heights of the Starsburg, but it was still highly sought after. No players setting the collecting world alight in 2012, although the inclusion of Harper again was enough to make this a desirable product.
There are 220 cards in the base set, available in a number of different variations, red, orange, blue and gold
There are 110 prospects available in base and chrome, also in a number of different variations, red, orange, green , blue and purple. Although it is the Chrome refractors and superfractors that collectors are after.
The Red Sox available from the base set are;
#20 Jacoby Ellsbury
#39 Carl Crawford
#46 Jon Lester
#64 Josh Beckett
#102 Clay Buchholz
#114 Adrian Gonzalez
#141 Dustin Pedroia
#159 David Ortiz
#187 Kevin Youkilis

The prospects are;
#BP25 Raul Alcantara
#BP29 Keith Couch
#BP55 Jose Vinicio
#BP66 Jackie Bradley Jr.
#BP93 Brandon Jacobs
#BP105 Xander Bogaerts
The Jumbo pack:

Not bad for a jumbo pack, 2 Red Sox and a sticker auto.

2012 Topps Archives

The 2012 Topps Archives base set of 200 cards contains 50 cards from 4 different eras.
The cards are fashioned after Topps cards printed in 1954, 1971, 1980 and 1984.
Each of the 200 base cards is available in a gold variation.
There are 40 short printed cards in a variety of Topps designs and 1 super ridiculously short print of Bryce Harper.
There are many inserts available: 50 Gold stamped reprints, 10 Classic Combos, 10 In Action, 25 1977 Topps cloth, 25 1967 Topps stickers, 15 1969 Topps deckle edge and 15 1968 Topps 3-D.
There are also relics, autographs, original autographs, framed mini autographs and all -time fan favourite autographs.
At first glance this looks like a super set, not only for the inclusion of 1980 Topps, but for the other interesting inserts.
The jumbo rack packs contain 14 cards.
The pack included:
1954 design
#8 Matt Moore Bay Rays
#17 Mat Latos Reds
#28 Melky Cabrera Giants
#47 Drew Pomeranz Rockies
1971 design
#65 Jordan Zimmermann Nationals
#69 Ryan Zimmerman Nationals
#76 Miguel Montero D-backs
#98 Johna Santana Mets
1980 design
#130 Giancarlo Stanton Marlins
#148 R.A.Dickey Mets
1984 design
#192 Brad Peacock Athletics
#195 Brandon Morrow Blue Jays
#199 Mark Reynolds Orioles
#683D-MK Matt Kemp
No Red Sox, but the inclusion of 2 1980's cards saved this pack from a pony.

2011 Topps Baseball Series 2 Jumbo Pack

Jumbo packs...$4.99. I like these and if only my local Tesco stocked these. This Jumbo comes from the wonderful Alley Family in North Carolina, who always spring a surprise package full of baseball packs.
Each Jumbo contains 36 cards and a promise of Diamond Anniversary parallel cards.

Only one card left from the Topps base set and that is a series 1 card
#218 Victor Martinez

However there a number of parallel cards and inserts that I am always looking for; firstly Kimball Champions a collar 'Sparkle' card of Jacoby Ellsbury wouldn't unappreciated or the Jacoby silk. The odds of locating a Kimball is 1:1 for the Jumbo packs, I think the odds push towards 1:100's for the other two.

The pack:
Top half first
#5 Lou Gehrig Yankees Diamond Anniversary (a series 1 card?)
#336 Chris Heisey Reds
#369 Wilson Betemit Royals
#378 Mark Reynolds  Orioles
#458 Javier Vazquez Marlins
#456 Ryan Doumit Pirates
#469 Cole Hamels Phillies
#500 Kevin Youkilis Red Sox
#551 Marcus Thames Dodgers
#552 San Francisco Giants
#566 Jordan Zimmermann Nationals
#575 Rod Barajas Dodgers
#601 J.J.Putz D-backs
#604 Joe Paterson D-backs
#645 Adam Wainwright Cardinals
#60YOT_63 Ed Mathews Braves
#DD-27 Josh Johnson Marlins Justin Verlander Tigers
#KC-61 Greg Maddux Braves

Bottom half:
#371 Taylor Teagarden Rangers
#372 Jarrod Saltalamacchia Red Sox
#385 Checklist 3/5
#389 Carlos Quentin White Sox
#401 Michael Crotta Pirates
#409 Vin Mazzaro Royals
#435 Elvis Andrus Rangers
#462 Daric Barton Athletics
#465 Yovani Gallardo Brewers
#520 Jorge Posada Yankees
#558 Carlos Zambrano Cubs
#560 Chris Lannetta Rockies
#589 Seattle Mariners
 #590 Tim Lincecum Giants
#646 Los Angeles Dodgers
#648 Cody Ross Giants
#T60-97 Jackie Robinson Dodgers
#TT2-30 Carl Crawford Red Sox

Three Red Sox from a 36 card pack, not bad. I was thrown a little by the Series 1 Lou Gehrig in a Seres 2 pack, there doesn't appear to be anything special about it except that it is a Diamond Anniversary card. Unless it is a Platinum variation, any help appreciated.

2009 Topps Updates and Highlights Jumbo pack

Yes I know there are people posting 2010 Topps but I am in a little behind when it comes to 'fresh' product. Thankfully the word is well and truly out that I collect baseball cards - I have been trying hard enough to get it out there. The downside is the giggles and comments of a grown man collecting cards, etc. The upside is that friends of friends who visit the US bring back cards! This fine looking jumbo came from a parent at school, whose sister went to the US for a short break over Christmas. Thought you might like these she said as they were handed over.
I haven't received any of the Red Sox UH cards as of yet, so the good news is any Red Sox will be a welcome addition.
The Jumbo:
#UH2 Felipe Lopez Brewers
#UH51 Jesus Guzman Giants
#UH55 Ben Zorbist Bay Rays
#UH60 Brandon Inge Tigers
#UH86 Carlos Pena Bay Rays
#UH87 Jake Peavy White Sox
#UH88 Classic Combos Leyland/LaRussa
#UH98 Hanley Ramirez Marlins
#UH94 Jarrod Washburn Tigers
#UH101 Nick Green Red Sox
#UH105 Luis Valbuena Indians
#UH107 Anthony Swarzak Twins (x2)
#UH122 Classic Combos Youkilis et al.
#UH124 Delwyn Young Pirates (x2)
#UH128 Chone Figgins Angels
#UH132 Joe Thurston Cardinals
#UH140 Jack Wilson Mariners
#UH144 Ronny Cedeno Pirates
#UH148 Micah Hoffpaur Cubs (x2)
#UH147 Jayson Nix White Sox (x2)
#UH171 Trevor Hoffman Brewers
#UH179 Carl Crawford Bay Rays
#UH181 Zach Duke Pirates
#UH191 Ben Zorbist Bay Rays gold 1579/2009
#UH197 Dan Harden D-backs
#UH224 Takashi Saito Red Sox
#UH262 Jeff Niemann Bay Rays
#UH284 Mark Melancon Yankees
#UH309 Scott Podsednik White Sox
#LGU20 Frank Robinson Reds
#PP8 David Wright Mets
#TTT73 Matt Cain Giants
There is 2 Red Sox cards which isn't a great ratio, technically 3 but one of the cards is a classic combo with Youkilis but mainly pictures Derek Jeter.
This was a Bay Rays pack crossing the line with 5 cards including a gold border numbered card. Unfortunately 4 of the cards were duplicated. This may be common in jumbo packs and I have been lucky, as I haven't experienced this sort of duplication before.
